Bein' Sketchy With Noble Treachery, Part 2: The Crown

The second illustration I was commissioned to do for Noble Treachery was "The Crown". I was simply asked to illustrate the crown of a dead king, maybe with a skull, on display somehow. I don't know why but I immediately had an image in my head that I wanted to do for it, so I submitted these two sketches. Again, the art needed to work in a square format, but because I wanted a vertical piece for myself I extended it a bit.

I was given the go-ahead on the second sketch, and moved on to do a more detailed drawing.

Post about the finished painting to come..when it is finished.
Until then, consider supporting Noble Treachery on Kickstarter here!

Bein' Sketchy With Noble Treachery, Part 1: The Assassin

Recently I was commissioned to do a pair of pieces for a game called Noble Treachery, which is currently up for funding on Kickstarter. I encourage everyone to check it out here, and support it if it seems like your kind of thing. It looks pretty cool(and I'm only a little biased).

The first piece I was asked to illustrate was a medieval assassin, preferably a femme fatale. The piece needed to work within a square, but since I wanted a vertical piece for myself I extended the art. I submitted these three sketches.

The first sketch was chosen, but I was asked if she could have more of a "dominatrix" feel, while keeping her in medieval times. She gained a bunch of buckles and studded leather.

That did the trick, and I moved on to do this drawing.

I'm currently working on the final painting, so there will be a post about it when it is finished.

Next time...The Crown!

I wanted to do a couple of character illustrations. These are them.

This started out as an entry for an ArtOrder challenge, but I struggled with it alot and only recently finished it. It's oil on board, as usual.

Here's a bunch of thumbnails.

For the finished drawing I tried something new and did it directly on the board, but it looked absolutely atrocious and will never see the light of day. Turns out erasing pencil from gessoed board is very difficult, so I spent the better portion of the painting fixing my screwed up drawing. It's not somethinging I plan on doing again.
I also decided to remove the light beam. At some point during the painting I felt that it just looked awkward, and then on top of that I also found out that a light beam was actually impossible at the angle I had the light coming from.
